Life lately

Castle hall for inter-mcr formal

Lately:
1. A host of formals. Becoming real good friends with my black robe
2. Lunches. I think I've solved my I-hate-lunch conundrum
3. Flask. Many small hot cups of tea rather than one large cup that grows too cold too fast.
4. Work. Splendidly! Making heaps of progress. And by that I mean baby steps.
5. Languages. You will be the death of me.
6. Meetings after 5 pm. Please go away forever.
7. Bunnies.  Both a menace and a delight.

A bit of home

I've come down with strep all week long. Definitely have cabin fever.  I'm not sure I could watch another episode of Scooby Doo. I think of home.

[i preferred the finger blur to any edits]

Mom took most of these on a walk (while one is from our neighbor).  Snow doesn't happen consistently in the Carolinas, so we enjoy it while we can.  Even if that means vicariously through photos. Now, only to find that recipe of cream of chicken and celery soup. xo

Snow snow

Snow has blitzed in and out of Durham since my return in mid-January.  It is absolutely beautiful, and makes me eternally grateful for  LL Bean boots.  Thankful for all this weather, even the little bulbs already poking up in the garden.

A Bachelorette Party

Ambrosia: Only around Christmas

Over Christmas, we hosted a Bachelorette party.  We weren't behind the genius of any of these beautiful ideas, but I liked the images so much I wanted to share them.

Out and About

St Chad's quad

Durham Cathedral Cloister

In Newcastle

Literature and Philosophic Society, Newcastle

Lit and Phil, NCL

Things I've been up to lately:
1. Taking walks around routes I like because they are simply beautiful.
2. Going into the Lit and Phil in Newcastle. Tea and books were meant to go together. And beautiful buildings.
3. Busy busy weeks and super relaxed weekends.

Finchdale Priory

My first glimpse of mole hills

Lovely day trip in Durham.  I come away from these things always so impressed. And the best thing to do, is of course, to play a game of hide and seek.

Lent

Durham Cathedral

This year my goals for lent focus around the Durham Cathedral.

1. Learn how to use the Book of Common Prayer for private devotional use
2. Attend morning or evensong once a week until Easter.
3. Read through The Heart's Time by Janet Morgan.  This was recommended by the Dean of the Cathedral Michael Sadgrove, and for every day of lent, it has a poem to contemplate.
4. Spend less time on the computer, esp. reading blogs of people I don't know.

I'll also be hoping to attend some of the concerts the Cathedral tend to offer, in addition to a workshop on medieval prayer. Yesterday, on Ash Wednesday, it was all snowing, and added a perfect clean slate to mark the beginning of Lent.

Candlemas 2013

dinner

wii dance

cork guns and tin cans

strong man contest

hidden talents

joining the circus

Candlemas, Chad's annual college ball, was on Friday, themed Cirque du Soleil.  The attention to detail was unbelievable. The coordinators had obviously put their heart and soul into it and it was just amazing.  Dinner, followed by a mini carnival with popcorn, shooting and strong man contests, a dance floor, a performing magician, and photobooths! Then the entertainment began with contortionists, flame swallowers, can-can dancers, and just about anything else you might find at the circus save the animals. Completely fab and good fun!
